Old Post Office is located inside a restored 1914 building at 100 S. West Street in downtown Bainbridge, Georgia. Along with weddings, events, a full bar, and The Mailroom Speakeasy, we are now hosting a new kind of public event: live murder mystery theater. We currently plan to bring these performances to Bainbridge three or four times a year, with changing themes and an outside producer creating each experience.

Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at Old Post Office

This is a new addition for the venue, planned to run three or four times a year going forward. Each event is hosted through an outside performance company rather than booked privately, and each run brings a different story. Here’s what’s confirmed for the show currently on the calendar.

It’s Live, Scripted, and Interactive

The performance combines a scripted story with audience participation. Guests can question characters, gather clues, and try to influence how the story unfolds, or simply sit back with a drink and let the mystery play out around them. The evening is structured as a living, unfolding world rather than a fixed script everyone watches the same way. Live jazz is also part of the current performance, adding to its 1930s setting.

6 pm Comes With Dinner, 9 PM Doesn’t

For the current 1930s aviation event, guests can choose between two performances. The 6 PM show includes a buffet-style seated dinner, while the 9 PM show includes the performance without dinner. Both take place in the main upstairs ballroom, the same space that hosts weddings and larger gatherings during the rest of the month.

The Current Theme Explores 1930s Aviation

The current story draws on the real competition for early U.S. airmail contracts, a period when rival airlines fought for government routes and public trust. One of those airlines would go on to become Pan American Airways. The other faded out of the history books, and that gap is where this story picks up, blending real events with invented ones to fill in what wasn’t recorded. The show is produced by Rock Solomon, an Atlanta-based entertainer known for building immersive experiences around live jazz and theatrical storytelling with a vintage American feel. Expect a new theme the next time the event is hosted, since the story changes with each run.

Costumes Get You a Free Drink

Guests are encouraged to dress in 1930s aviation era attire. Guests who arrive in costume receive one free beer or house wine and are entered into the Best Dressed Contest. Costumes are encouraged rather than required.

Free Parking and Accessibility Information

Old Post Office provides free parking and ADA access through a rear ramp and rear entrance. Guests using that entrance should first check in with the ticket taker at the front door. The performance takes place in the main upstairs ballroom.

A Building That Sets Its Own Scene

Part of what makes the evening work is the room itself. Old Post Office was built in 1914 and inaugurated by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and the renovation brought back much of its original architecture, from the terrazzo lobby floor to the high ceilings in the ballroom upstairs. It’s the kind of space that doesn’t need much dressing up to feel like it belongs to another decade, which makes it a natural fit for a story set in the 1930s.

Conclusion

We plan to host murder mystery events several times throughout the year, with themes changing from one production to the next. For the current event, guests can step into a 1930s aviation mystery filled with live jazz, characters, clues, and audience participation inside our historic downtown Bainbridge venue.
