Murder mystery nights work best when the setting does half the acting. That’s exactly why we host ours inside a restored 1914 federal post office in downtown Bainbridge, Georgia, with a hidden speakeasy in the basement, a ballroom with a catwalk running the length of the ceiling, and a walk-in vault that still holds its secrets.
When the theme is 1930s aviation and the clues are scattered across a room that has genuinely been keeping stories since before your grandparents were born, the intrigue isn’t manufactured. It’s already in the walls.
An Immersive Evening in a Space That Actually Has History
Some venues dress up for a murder mystery. We didn’t have to. Old Post Office has been holding secrets since 1914, from a hidden speakeasy in the basement to a catwalk tucked into the ballroom ceiling. When the story is set in the 1930s, the building already knows the era.
The Setting: Main Ballroom and The Mailroom Below
Our current murder mystery takes place in the main upstairs ballroom of Old Post Office, at 100 South West Street in historic downtown Bainbridge, Georgia. The ballroom opens into a large, configurable space where guests gather for the performance. For the 6 pm show, guests also enjoy a buffet-style seated dinner. Above them, that original catwalk runs nearly the length of the room, a detail that feels almost too on-theme for an evening built around watching, listening, and figuring out who did what.

Guests can also make The Mailroom Speakeasy part of the evening when it is open or included in event plans. This underground lounge draws its name directly from the building’s origins as the town post office. Dark wood finishes, candlelit tables, vintage telephones, and period-inspired cocktails set the scene. It’s the kind of room where a 1930s aviation story feels completely at home.
The Show: Two Performances, Two Experiences
We host the murder mystery event a few times a year, and the theme rotates with each run. Right now, the story is a live jazz-infused interactive production set during the 1930s aviation boom, with a narrative built around rival airlines, government contracts, and a mystery that draws from real historical events. There are two performances for the current event. The 6 pm show includes a buffet-style seated dinner. The 9 pm show does not include dinner. Both are ticketed in advance through Eventbrite.

The event is produced by Atlanta-based entertainer Rock Solomon, who specializes in immersive experiences that combine live jazz, theatrical storytelling, and audience participation. Guests interact with characters, gather clues, and can influence how the evening unfolds. Or you can simply settle in with a cocktail and enjoy the atmosphere. Either approach works.
What to Wear and Who Should Come
These evenings are for guests 21 and up. Period dress and costume are strongly encouraged. Anyone who arrives in 1930s aviation era attire receives one complimentary beer or house wine, and is automatically entered into the Best Dressed contest. Smart dress fits the mood of the evening, and guests who lean into the 1930s theme tend to add even more energy to the experience.
Before or After the Show
One reason these evenings have a natural second act is The Mailroom itself. Whether you arrive early to settle in before the 6 pm dinner performance or head down after the 9 pm show wraps, the speakeasy carries the energy of the night forward. The signature cocktail menu includes options like the Smoked Old Fashioned, served under a glass cloche with theatrical smoke presentation, and the Lavender Gin Fizz made with house-infused spirits.
There is also a curated wine list, craft beers, and zero-proof cocktails made with the same care as everything else behind the bar. For guests who want to eat before the 9 pm show, food from The American restaurant can be delivered to your table at Old Post Office. It’s worth planning around.
Parking and Access
Parking is free. The building has ADA accessibility via a rear ramp and entrance. If you have accessibility needs, check in with the ticket taker at the front door first for rear access coordination.
Conclusion
If you’ve been curious about murder mystery events and wondering whether Bainbridge has a venue that could actually pull one off, we’d like to think this answers the question. The building does a lot of the work. We handle the rest.
